FireFox Memory Madness.
So, FireFox....It's alright.
Problem:
FireFox, will occasionally - depending on sites I browse to, shit all over my system and begin consuming memory indefinitely until the systems because inoperable and I am forced to cause a hard reboot or force my session to restart (ctrl+alt+shift+back space).
Browser details:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009030422 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.7
OS Details uname -a:
Linux Moneque 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
A Solution:
Use ulimit to limit the amount of memory Fire Fox can access.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/314424
You'll need to open up the firefox startup file, I believe you'll need sudo/super-user privileges to do so, the file is found here /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.5/firefox.sh your version name may be different. In my case the command for opening from the terminal was:
sudo gedit /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.7/firefox.sh
Some where near the top of the file, after the comments, add the following block of text. Do not add it between brackets ( { } ) but in its own space
# Limiting virtual address space, data segment, and resident memory
ulimit -d 500000
ulimit -v 500000
ulimit -m 250000
Your finished file may look something like this:
....
....
# Fabien Tassin
# Steve Langasek
# License: GPLv2 or later
# Limiting virtual address space, data segment, and resident memory
ulimit -d 1300000
ulimit -v 1300000
ulimit -m 1300000
MOZDIR=$HOME/.mozilla
LIBDIR=/usr/lib/firefox-3.0.7
APPVER=3.0
....
....
the numbers here are the maximum amount of memory firefox will be allowed to use. I couldn't get a concrete understanding but I believe this limitation is enforced by the kernel, no way for FF to get around it....The numbers are in Kilobytes so 1300000 is roughly 1.2Gigabytes or 1,269MB (I party hard). You may need to change these numbers to reflect your system. You can get good numbers from the Google converter: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=1300000KB+in+GB&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=
I suspect the average user may want to use about 300MB or so, that would be about 300000kb
ulimit -d 300000
ulimit -v 300000
ulimit -m 300000
After you have saved the file restart firefox and you should be good to go.

Sigma 18-200mm
This lense is an econo-lense (cheap and only mildly efective) so I'm not dissapointed with its performance I am dissapointed with my decision to purchase it.
I took a lot of pictures today and only a few came out. I should have taken my tripod with me, next time I will.
Going to the park by yourself is very lonely once you notice all of the couples there....

空しい
Today was pretty empty. Half of it was sucked up by meetings. The other half was me trying to wiggle out of taking the ACT/SAT If I have to take either of those I won't be able to hop into next semesters classes. The person I spoke with said they have another test for people who have been out of HS for more than 5 years, I'm hoping it is the New Mexico Competency exam because I took that while I was still competent and got half-way decent scores. Odds are it isn't that test but is actually a test far more difficult than either the ACT or SAT. If I had to take one or the other I'd probably want to take the ACT. I've come to the understanding that it is applied knowledge and not learned and memorized knowledge...of course there is a 99% chance I am horribly horribly wrong and am walking into a terrible terrible trap.
If I get to go to college I'll probably go in for a Computer Science degree and minor in Asian studies (spoken japanese). Their site says most CS majors get a Computer Engineer minor but being an engineer is esentially being a mad scientist. I'm depressed not diabolical - big difference there.
After I get the degree I would like to work in the tiresome japanese workforce and I would need to get a couple certifications; JLPT 2(at least) and the CCNP Japan -loves- certifications. At least that is what I heard.
I can probably start working on the CCNP now but it'll have expired by the time I get done with school so...eh...
so here is this:
うち に あそび に きて ください
"Please come over to my house"
smart.fm says it means "please come over to my house" but I see the word asobi which is roughly "playing" or "play thing" so it is confusing to think about. Perhaps it is one of those set in stone phrases that isn't ment to be translated word for word but intentionally.
Meh...

Invitation
Well, I've been invited to a wedding. Kinda depressing really. I have never been to a wedding. Turns out I have to dress up and get them something. What should I get them? I don't know anything about this sort of thing.....
I'll need to get a suit and stuff...or something...It seems like I can't wear white. I don't like wearing black suits.
I need to get a plant.

Meh
Fuck that shit, that is hard. You're on your own. I've started making flash cards though.
I only know one of those stacks. The other two I just recently wrote down.
Anyway, I've been going outside a bit more often. I've got pictures to prove it.
Near where I live are the Sandia Mountains. I was at the...base..I guess. I was up there after getting my hair done and realizing that my camera was in the car. I wish I had my zoom lense with me but eh...I didn't have good shoes on or water so I didn't go far.
Some rocks...
a sun set, this is my favorite but not my most viewed.
This is the most viewed of my sunset pictures. I want to take more sunset pictures.
I took it with my 50mm prime.
This is my most viewed picture, at about 86 views (internet superstar)
Anyway, I'll try to update more regularly.
