Oh, heh, yeah....Forgot I had this....So what’s new? Actually not much of anything really. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this but I’m Buddhist now but only in title alone, I don’t do a lot of the social things I’m supposed to but I’m working on it. I chose zen because I feel I need a lot more structure in my life and zen practice helps me along with that.

I’ve picked up art again, art in general, to help give me something to do that’ll put me mind at ease. I chose sumi-e because while it’s on the surface very simple it can go into great detail. And though it is simple it is by no means ‘easy’. Expression with sumi-e is very subtle. It’s going to take a bit of getting used to.
A while ago I had purchased a drawing tablet and had wanted to use that for sumi-e however I just can’t seem to recapture interaction between brush and paper with with a pen and electronic tablet. I guess it may have something to do with them being two completely different mediums or something....Way too complex for me.

Classes....I haven’t really been doing very well in classes. Sometimes I’d sign up for some and then withdraw from half....That’s just me being lazy but I think I can no longer afford to be lazy. I’ve already wasted so much time....I’ve started watching myself, if that’s even possible, and have come to realize that a lot of my time just goes up into the air. I don’t really do anything with it...I’m not enjoying myself or in any kind of duress, I just move along day by day in a daze.

On the other hand I’ve got a new rice cooker, which is great because now when I cook rice I can just clean it, and leave it. When I make rice I try to do it as mindfully as possible – concentrating on the task at hand rather than letting my mind wonder off and do whatever it is that it wants to do. It’s difficult but it feels ‘right’.

In addition to a rice cooker I've been trying to cut out a great deal of the meat I eat. And to help me with that I took the liberty of getting a slicer, you know those long knives that are normally used for slicing meat. Here are the knives I have now:

Cutting out a lot of meat is only half of it. The other half is cutting out sugars, to help with that I've found Japanese "Umeshu" which is about 87% sugar, the rest is alcohol.

Classes start....So I'm excited and disappointed about that. I've been reminded that I am not the smartest person I know; I signed up for a class that I've already taken and passed - by the time I realized what had happened it was too late......However this'll save on books as I've still got the book....That let me finally get around to getting something that I've always wanted; a white board...But now I don't know what to do with it. I suppose I can use it for planning and homework or whatever

I've been browsing youtube a lot recently and have come to realize that there are few/no channels that explicitly go over my field of study (linguistics) however there are a lot of exhibitionist omniglots and some of them are actual linguists and one of them comes close in that he showcases various language however he doesn't really talk about the science behind it all. No one has made a video version of the wikipedia entries revolving around linguistics and I thought: Maybe I can? I'm no where near an authority on the subject but I figure if I do my homework then it can't hurt so long as I cite my sources, present the pot, and keep my hands out. I donno...I've already reserved some channels now I just need to set out a lesson plan and so on.

I don't think I have a good TV voice/personality.

A friend of mine has been doing a little thingy where they draw sleeping people on the train. Their goal was 1,000 drawings. Today they got to 1,000 so I'm interested in knowing what they'll be doing after that.

I've been looking at more languages and have found hindi. Hindi will be the hardest language I'll have to tackle. The alphabet is a syllabary that kinda acts like an alphabet....A syllabic alphabet? Hold on, gotta figure out what it's called...Hindi uses Devanagari which is an "abugida alphabet" which, in laymans terms, is an alphasyllabary which is kinda what I said it was.....You're gonna have to look that stuff up on your own....Or maybe I'll make a video about it. Most/all of the alphabet, in this book, is described using linguistic terms and that's what sparked the search of youtube for linguistic videos and the idea to make my own.....The language also has sounds that I don't think exist in English, this'll make listening practice "difficult". Despite this there are a lot of slow paced videos online to listen to.

I've been trying to live without the phone for a couple weeks now. So far so good. I just use it as an alarm and then ignore it the rest of the time. Don't really think I miss it but I still know i have it with me in case I need it....I need to go all the way with it.

Lately I've not been cleaning my house.....I've kinda fallen into a stupor that I need to get out of. I did do dishes yesterday though...

Yesterday, in the mail, I got about two-and-a-half-fuck-tons of loot. As you can see I'd already begun to "sample" some of the things I received before I took the photo.

The yellow bag one to the right is okonomiyaki flavored puff balls. They're like cheetos except okonomiyaki flavored instead. They're also much much better. If they have them hereI can see these being a problem for me in the future....the ones labled "Just Pack" are also very good. top most one is cheese, the brown one is little fish (sardines) with almonds mixed in with them. and the other is some sorta fried breaded...something...I wanna say squid. The red package is peanut puffs and the green next to is is soybean pod shaped/flavored puffs. They're also very good. I've had these before and had almost forgotten about them until I got this. I don't know what the brown back above that is but it's also very good. The blue mug has the kanji for various fish. I don't know if they're antiquated kanji or not as I'm unable to find some of them. The packages in the red/tan box are sento treats my buddy steals. I love these to death. And I don't nkow what the two cups are.

What's really noteworthy here is the black'ish outfit underneath everything. That's a jinbei. I'm wearing it now. It's comfy. It also came with a matching fan.

But yeah, did I tell you? I signed up for classes. All of my classes are online this semester so that'll give me more time to do....less things...fewer things, whatever. Either way I don't have to go outside nearly as much as I did last semester and that's always a good thing for me as I'm staunchly against going outside....I'll be taking another Spanish class, an linguistic anthropology class and a math class. Skimping on total classes this time because they didn't have a class I really wanted to take. Classes start on the 30th so I guess I gotta get my books soon....

Aside from all that not much else has gone down. I've taken up C, which so far is interesting. I'll be able to dodge a lot of the OOP stuff even though I've gotta learn it in the future anyway. But at least this way I'll have more fundamentals under my belt before I hit C++. That's what I wanna tell myself.

I've done mostly procedural programming in php, if that's even programming....That's just scripting. I've also done a bit of C#, I didn't like C# at all. I don't know if it was me or the language or the situation. I hope it was just the language or situation because if it was just me I'mma have just as hard a time this time around with C# as I did last time around with C++.

I've got a solid idea I just need to work at it. "I won't tell you what it is because I don't want you to steal it!". It's not easy, it's not easy to do alone, and it's especially not easy for me at all.

Last night I had another tooth loss dream. I read some where that Those generally tend to come from unease about the future. This seems about right as the last time I had these I was worried about......The future.....employment and the such. This time I'm still worried about the future, just a bit differently. Everyone knows I want to travel however I'm not entirely sure I have what it takes to allow myself to travel as part of my employment.....I've gotta get over this and move on so I can have nice dreams.

I've decided to pick up a religion, or I suppose in this case a philosophy. Since I don't much care for how the organized religions handle themselves I thought I'd pick up Buddhism. That's more about self realization and actualization than it is about reliance on some ethereal being I've never even heard a peep from. It's just me and my thoughts which is good as that's generally the case except now I have a name to put with my solitude. I want to memorize the heart sutra. I wander if I have to memorize it in its native language or if I can learn it in another language and still be good to go....I wander, if now, I can still be enthralled by choco or if I should give that up. She recently got a new phone, a pretty nice one, I 'kinda' wanted it...Gotta give up Drink King though....That's totally in there, of course I hadn't drank at all for the past X amount of years prior; I don't know where to start counting

Oh, well....Summer vacation is just about over, I didn't do as much as I told myself I would do. Time to start getting ready for the next semester. I hope this time around I can take all on-line classes to help me avoid doing things like “going outside” or “seeing other people”....Foolish things I have no interest in anyway...I hope this time around to actually take care of my math class and take another English. I think after this English class I'll be done with it....If there are any linguistics courses I'll be taking them but I hope not to take more than 4 classes this time around.

I've said it before, I want to cancel my phone. I don't much use it. I've powered it off and I can't say that I miss it. About the only thing I use it for anymore is as an alarm clock. I think I'll have to get a pay as you go phone or unlock the one I have and use that one.

The greater majority of the people I know have wives/husbands/some-sort-of-mate and are settling down. I've not go any of that and am just starting to hustle about. I wander if I'm doing it wrong...

Today I finished watching one of my soaps, the ending was more a real-life ending than anything else. "Everyone just kinda drifted apart", just how things end up in real life. Well, except for the family "finding" 50 million usd. But that wasn't really addressed in the ending: ending focused on the drifting apart aspect.

Figured going out would make me feel better. That's what everone always says. So allowed myself to be taken to Mc. Donalds on Monday, I got a kids meal. It reminded me of times when I was growing up in Arizona and I'd get taken to get a kids meal. About the same time the original pokemon came out. Those where "the good 'ol days". I remember trying to collect the little pokemon toys then, I got a shrek toy this time but I gave it away.

A spanish speaking kid kept talking to me and as soon as I told her I didn't speak Spanish she started talking even more. I could pick out words she was saying but couldn't really get a grasp of the entire conversation. At one point she asked me if I had X I didn't know what she said and asked the others in the car, turns out she asked me if I had any hambergers....as if I just keep them in my pockets where ever I go. In her defense I had just gotten in the car nigh two minutes ago and she had been led to believe I was going to provide her with them. She's like.....two to four.

Also held a baby, again, and again I didn't know WTF I was doing so I sat it on the table and gave it my keys to play with. The keys went promptly into his mouth....

yeah I thought I'd try being a bit of a vegitarian for a while. Today I had udon noodle soup with bonito broth, spniach, raw egg, shitake mushrooms, and soy sauce. It wasn't bad but I don't think I would ask for it at a restuarnt or anything.

Just got done reading a few wikipedia articles. Did you know loneliness is an actual clinical mental illnes? it almost goes hand in hand with depression. I was playing bass a while ago trying to play Renai Circulation, a song from a Japanese anime. I'd type the kana out but I don't know how to spell circulation in katakana. Any way that and chocolate disco by perfume ain't easy. The videos of other people playing are really discuraging.... Gotta keep trying though, I guess.

So did you hear? Ubuntu 10.04 came out today! When I rebuilt my computer after the massive hardware failure someone who hates me convienced me to get a ATI video card. I'm a *nix user and ATI and *nix don't have a good history; a lot of things don't work or if they do their problematic. So this time around I will be going nVidia and forthe ps I'll finally be making the switch to 64bit ad well! 64bit with 8 gigs of ram~ that aught to be nice.....Not that there was a hardware failure or anything, I'm just tired of the creeping problems I get with this card.

For some reason or another, awhile ago, I had told myself I'd be seeing a lot less of the online world; then I met someone who anchored me to it again. Donno why originally but now most everyone I know I preocupied with school, work, or whatever it is they so with their time so now I get a lot less 'face' time with these people. The new person has started school and others other things so I figure I'd go back to where I was before a sorta move away from being online all the time. I donno not much reason in being online all the time if there is no one to talk to right? Anyway it's late for me, I'mma hit the sack.

Don’t do unnecessary things.

     I’m not sure who said that, Sun Tzu, Miyamoto Musashi, or myself – or where I heard it from – but it’s been one of my mantras for a few good years now however This semester I for whatever totally dropped the idea and indulged in the whole-fully unnecessary. Taking classes that don’t directly pertain to my end goals. I’ve been wracking myself with things I’m not right for. I’ve been spending a lot of time out and about and it has been eating away at me. I’m going to start taking as many on-line classes as I can in the future. I figured getting face time with the instructor would do me some good, this has been wrong. However I’m not going to take classes this summer semester, instead I suppose I’ll prep for the up coming spring semester; see if I can contest a math level. I also want to get the CCNA and-additionally the CCNP, we’ll see how well that goes. Finals are next week.

     Socially I’ve not been doing well, I went to a Baptism and took some pictures that didn’t turn out so well. I made a sacrifice that was unreasonable: it was a low light environment however, it was full of people, the people and those being Baptized were the subject matter so I needed to go as wide as I could, and on top of all this I felt I couldn’t use flash. So I used my sigma 18-200mm on a 1.6 crop frame which starts off at 3.5/f. I could only drop my speed down to about 60 before blur would set in; all this together made for some pretty dark pictures. I should have used my 50mm prime. Which starts off at 1.4/f....I could jump it to 2.5 and get more subject matter in and still get more light than at 3.5. The bokeh woulda been crazy and I'd have had to stand on the other side of the building but at least the lighting would have been better and the subjects more than just brownish blackish blobs. Anyway, at the end of the actual event there was a gathering of people at the hosts house. I was over-dressed, I couldn't bring myself to actually say anything to anyone and instead was relegated to being the creepy guy in the corner. When someone did talk to me I shat bricks. I'm not all that great at group events with strangers.....

is one of my early tests with my new 50mm prime, along with the fly at the top. It's a basic closeup of a rose and it was used as the back-cover for a 'greatest hits'-esq CD for a the group "12 Girls Band", sounds like Ancient Chinese Kung-Fu Secrets.

Not doing so well... spent an hour looking at pictures I shouldn't have been looking at. Also think I'm going to fail my music theory class. That was supposed to be my coaster class but it's the hardest class I have. Had the mid-term today, didn't enjoy that at all. decided to need to break away from stumble-upon'ing or what ever. Most everything I read hass an rss so I'll just subscribe to those and if there are any updates I'll get them when I check my reader. Finding anything worth while on stumble-upon is rare enough to be inconsiquential anyway. At least in the fields I have as interesting.

I ever mention the iPod touch I got? It's pretty fancy and I use it for flash cards mostly. I have a few flascard apps. and a Spanish verb conjugation application for Spanish verbs. This app. is really nice because now I can conjugate while in bed. I'm at the point where as long as I know the pronoun I can conjugate the present tense of any non-irregular and I'm starting to wander if all the irregulars are regular in thier irregurality..... Kinda like the three Japanese irregulars.

Realized that I hate most/all OS "bling"....I was messing around with the RGBA Window Transparency nonsense in ubuntu and now I cannot have a peaceful desktop session without compiz enabled or windows just blink on and off and move about the screen....Personally I ignorantly blame ATI because a lot of things don't work with this card and I'm gonna go and say that this is one of those things. Regardless, 10.04 is coming out soon and I hope to upgrade to an nvidia card and slap on 8GB of ram....You can never have enough ram.

I found out that I often sit around and think about my languages and don't really write what I think about down. So, FFXI is raising the level cap to 99....I wander how that's gonna pan out....Means I have about 6 jobs I need to go from 75 to 99 with....I sure hope I don't have to fight Maat to get there....I really really hope it's 'easy' to get to 99, it's only 24 levels.

I think I've gotten my bug back so I want to try programming more....I had lost it due to the rigors of a previous position. I think firstly I'll finish up the "site" and then work on something I have in "aggidev". Blender 2.50 should be out later this year so I should probably catch up on my blender...It's been a "while" since I've done much with blender eh...?

Just when I thought I was getting better...

So I've decided not to go anywhere this year, I'm just going to stay home for facation like I did last year. Cheaper. I had also planned on getting a new camera; axed that too. I think instead I should work on savings; get at least 20-30k saved up for when I actually get around to moving somewhere. That way if things get really bad I'll have more than my normal six months of leway, I figure it could be that bad or worse, probably worse, if I'm overseas. Either way I should put away more

I was debating getting s second job during the summer months or taking classes straight through that. If I take classes I finish much much faster but if I get a job I can put more away. Originally I wanted a 2nd job so I could travel and get stuff this year but since I'm not doing that this year I can't see myself doing all that.....

Today i was changing the water for my fish tank. I took the fish out and put them in a bowl while I did the water. I turn around 15 min. or so and find everyone belly up or something. Guess there was something in the bowl that got them as I used tank water.

Oh, well..guess I'm back here. Classes have been rough and so has work but I'm managing. Recently got some things I shouldn't have; an iPod touch, and a new camera lens. The iPod is nice because I can put cute little vocabulary programs on it and the camera lense is a
macro lense. I had a zoom & prime but now with the 50mm f/2.8 macro I pretty much have all my bases covered

My music class is really hard so I had to get a tutor I bother one of myold bosses for that. They're pretty outgoing and may have a venue for me to sell my photos which would be really nice because then I could jestify getting the camera I actually want. I printed out a bunch of photos and they look nice

This year I hope to go back to japan on my own and get lost and then get unlost on my own. I hope to go during the later half of December because I think there are two large conventions that time of the year. It would be great if I could get the camera I want and go..... But that's just wishfull thinking huh?

I invented this, I'm pretty proud of myself. It's about an 8 out of 10; the scallops didn't come out as good as I'd have liked, they didn't add to the dish but they didn't really take away from the dish....Dish woulda been just as good without it.

Edit; Thursday, January 21 2010:
Steamed spinach and shiitake mushrooms add greatly to the dish. Discard notion of scallops and use plain steamed spinach and sliced shiitake mushrooms instead. Add them where the scallops would have been used.

Read the notes.

Ingredients:
     A five fingered pinch of bonito flakes
     Another five fingered pinch of agetama
     About 3 table spoons of Somen tsuyu sauce
     About 1.5 to 2 table spoons of oyster sauce
     One block of frozen udon noodles
     One frozen chicken breast
     A palm-full of scallops
     Two eggs

Notes:
     This is a sweet(甘い) dish.
     I guess a five fingered pinch would be a table spoon, either way I'm just gonna sprinkle those bits on top of the dish when I'm done so measuring it out is annoying

     You want about a 2:1~3:1,or whatever - I failed math class, on the somen-oyster mixture The oyster sauce is there to give the occasional tang to the dish but not over-power anything.

     The vacuum sealed udon noodles are shit, don't use those. Use the frozen udon if you can find them.

     Agetama, as far as I can see it, is flour that has been fried. Normally when you make tenpura bits of flour will float off what ever you're cooking and float around in the oil.

     Scoop that shit out, put it on a paper towel, and leave it out in a dry open place (in a stove?) to dry and drain.
     Using bread crumbs won't really work because they'll soak up the sauce/any-moisture-at-all, and loose all their crunch almost instantaneously
     You can make your own agetama by:
          setting up some frying oil (I always use olive oil - but whatever ya mean?)
          making a tempura batter
          dripping the batter, little-by-little, into the oil
          Scooping up the bread bits and laying them out to dry-drain

     The chicken breast is that sorta thick chicken breast you can cut and cube into bite sized chunks

     The scallops can be omitted - and replaced with more eggs or chicken as they don't really add anything in particular...

     my egg scrambling is very very plain: spray on oil the pan, heat the pan, smidge of margarine/butter and scramble.

     Most of this is done in parallel, making it a pretty quick cook

     Use a plate with a bit depth. Don't want a bowl as we don't want to smother the dish

Prep:
     Ain't none really. Everything goes from none to done pretty much....
     I think the dish, if you do it all at once, maxes out at about 15~20 minutes...?

Directions:
     Flash boil the chicken for no more than 5 full minutes.
     Take the chicken out and cube it.
     Flash boil it again for no more than 5 full minutes.
     The chicken should be berry berry juicy, if it ain't then it's your fault; you're fired.

     Cook the udon noodles according to the instructions on the package
     Or boil the udon until the block comes apart and about 2 full minutes after that
     Frozen udon noodles are almost kinda-kinda gummy, at least the ones I use.

     sauté the scallops....I don't know how to make these so that they'll fit with this dish.
     I'll update this once I figure that out. They can be omitted or kept for dish variety.

     scramble the eggs

Asthetics
     On your plate arrange the chicken, eggs, and scallops in a piece-sign kind of arrangement.
     Layer the udon noodles on top of the scallops and allow them to cover whatever else.
     Sprinkle the bonito flakes and agetama over the section with mostly the chicken and egg showing.
     nudge the noodles aside a little bit and pour in the tsuyu-oyster sauce mixture where the scallops are, (I guess you could lay the sauce down first...)
     Pop in some Calle 13 and get ready for the next step

Eat:
     I didn't really want the dish to be all egg or all chicken or all whatever....Occasionally there should be a point where the egg doesn't have anything but egg in it and the chicken is nothing but chicken and the scallops are whatever they are....scallopy or sumfing...

It was 1C/33F when I went to the gas station. While I was there I figured I'd wash off my wind shield so I put half frozen water of my freezing windshield and then spent 15 minutes scraping ice off my windshield. I make terrible decisions.

I wish I would have kept working; then I could have went on vacation, but now there are so many things I have to do. I want to get the ccna and the cna. Also I have my regular classes that I have to finish. I would have liked to have traveled this year, maybe to Japan again. I could have just gotten; a cheap hotel around Tokyo, a green pass, and some walking shoes. Then I could have pretended like I live there...

Shoulda woulda coulda maybe next time.

Also got my books for next semester. Gonna be trying out mythbuntu here soon too; Pretty happy about that.

Someone I know recently had a new baby. Lotta people I know are spawning....someone else I know has a kid who asks questions and then says "okay" no matter what the answer is. Would sometimes say okay just to say okay.

Today there were two of them; they ate through my patients almost immediately? and they were here for less than 30 minutes.
Brushed up on my languages and the game "my Japanese coach" says I'm about a kindergartner and "my Spanish coach" says I'm a toddler.

釜バターうどん

It took me about an hour to find out what the name of this dish was even though it was plastered all over the screen and they said it like 14 times.... Then it was a good while later, a bit of poking and prodding until I got some semblance of a recipe.

The stuff is called 釜バターうどん (かまバターうどん/kamabataa udon/buttered iron-pot(kettle) udon(noodles) and it’s an very simple dish.

You will need (exact measurements):
Bonito shavings (Dried fish flakes) or あげ玉(あげたま, agetama(tenkatsu))
A pinch or two of roasted sesame seeds
A small green onion green onion
A spoon or two of soy-sauce
A hefty crack nail of butter
An egg or two or whatever
Udon noodles

To prepare the dish you’ll need to perform the following tasks mostly in parallel or quickly

0. Flash boil the udon noodles.
1. Chop the green onion into small rings, you can use the whole things
2. Give the sesame seeds a light go over, or two, in the mortar with the pastel
3. Drain the noodles, drop them in cold water, swirl once or twice, drain the noodles, put them in a bowl.
4. Get a bit of butter, not even half a table spoon more around a clean teaspoon, toss it in a corner of the bowl.
5. Sprinkle the bonito, sesame seeds, and onions over the noodles ‘n butter.
6. Yeah boy!
7. Crack the egg over the noodles.
8. Take a picture
9. Pour the soy sauce on that.
10. Mix.
11. Eat.

Unless the noodles were left to sit they should have just enough heat to melt that small amount of butter.
You might have extra broth/sauce stuff. You can mix that with rice, and eat.
